Ciruena to Santo Domingo de la Calzado

Nice short day, 4 miles. Left Casa Victoria about 8:30 and got here 9:30 ish, got usual breakfast and waited till noon when the albergue opened up.

We started out wearing our insulated jackets and knit hats.

Met and walked into Santo Domingo.  . With Mimmie from Atlanta( originally from New Mexico)

1st breakfast

Hanging out waiting for albergue to open

Packs lined up waiting for doors to open

It's an old albergue run by nuns 5 euros for the night per person

Our room is behind these 4 bunks in a little alcove and best of all not bunk beds

Our little slice of heaven for the night

Lunch in albergue

Off to explore the town, take in the Cathedral Santo Domingo De La Calzada. The cathedral has a chicken coop inside - part of the church's history - with live chickens.

The Hen House and the Rooster Miracle:
The story of the German Pilgrim Hugonelle who was hung for stealing, still hanging but by miracle alive etc etc the parents told the mayor that their son was still alive and the mayor replied that the boy is as alive as these two roasted chickens we are about to eat, and then the chickens came to life . . . And so to this day there is a saying about this town that goes "Santo Domingo of the Way, where the roosters crow after being roasted."

Albergue is run by nuns, vespers at 6:40 Marilyn wants to go. Bye
