About This Blog - Camino de Santiago Camino Frances The French Way

This Blog will follow our journey on the Camino Frances (The French Way).

Join us as we walk through these regions of Northern Spain:  Basque Country and Navarra (St Jean Pied de Port to Logrona); La Rioja to Castilly y Leon (Logrona to Burgos); Meseta (Burgos to Astorga); Cantabrian Mountains and El Bierzo (Astorga to La Faba); Galicia (La Faba to Santiago).

We are starting our pilgrimage on August 30, 2013.  Our journey will take us from St. Jean Pied de Port, France to Santiago, Spain; and, depending on time limits we hope to continue from Santiago to Finisterre-Muxia. This last leg of our journal will add an additional 4-5 days. We are allowing for one rest day per week or some shorter days which will allow us not only to rest but allow us to enjoy the areas we are walking through.

We've roughed out a daily walking schedule (a very changeable plan),  looked over the alberque, hotel, hostel options, identified some of our must see sites.

Passports are current.  Travel Medical insurance is in place.

Plane tickets and train tickets have been purchased.  We are flying open jaw.  Leaving Milwaukee for Paris on August 28, 2013.  From Paris we take the train to St Jean Pied de Port.  We will fly home from Santiago de Compostela to Milwaukee on October 17.  A day or two in Paris would have nice but the extra days in St Jean Pied de Port maybe time better spent.

Hotel reservations are made for St Jean Pied de Port.

We received our pilgrim credentials (passports) before leaving Milwaukee.  To request a credential before leaving home click on this link.

Our Camino will be relaxed, flexible and enjoyable.  We have established dates to reach Pamplona, Burgos, Leon and Santiago but most points in between are wide open - pass through some locations quickly, take interesting historical detours, and spend more time at sites that we find interesting.  Ordering the Pilgrims Menu for dinner, enjoying cafe con leche and tappas as we walk.  Our lodging will include a little bit of everything including a Parador or two.
